Honoring Heritage

The client’s vision for 41 Lothbury was to thoughtfully transform a Grade II* listed Edwardian banking landmark into a modern, high-performance workplace, while honoring and celebrating its historic character. Featuring standout elements such as a grand central atrium, iconic checkerboard marble flooring, and original stone columns, the project required a landscape design that both complemented the building’s heritage and met contemporary standards of functionality and sustainability. The external spaces were conceived as an extension of the interior refurbishment, enhancing user experience and creating a serene, sophisticated outdoor environment suited to high-end commercial tenants in the heart of the City.

The landscape scheme was designed to flow seamlessly across multiple terrace levels, incorporating soft and hard landscaping, planters, seating, and an automated irrigation system—all carefully coordinated through narrow access routes and installed without affecting the building’s protected fabric. With a strong focus on achieving BREEAM Excellent and NABERS certification, Elite Landscapes delivered a highly sustainable solution, managing efficient logistics, material selection, and expert installation under live site conditions.

Elite Landscapes was proud to play a role in revitalising this iconic structure, designing and installing a courtyard that seamlessly complements the building’s historic character. The landscaping combines classic materials with modern design elements, creating a welcoming outdoor space for both occupants and visitors. This project highlights Elite Landscapes’ dedication to transforming historic sites into sustainable, functional environments while honouring their architectural heritage.
