Trevor Square (Former Harrods Depository), London – Complete roof garden construction
Project description
Trevor Square, which was formerly the Harrods Depository, is one of Knightsbridge's most impressive developments. The unmistakable brick and terracotta Grade II listed building has been converted into forty apartments and penthouses, two townhouses and two mews houses.
The roof garden was originally planned as a Parisian square but the designer, Peter Wilder, felt that this diverse space needed a more exciting design.
The final scheme involved natural stone and bound gravel paving, decking, raised planters, a water feature, lawns and linear planting all set off at night by a high quality lighting system.
The computerised illumination system includes high, medium and low ambient levels with special floodlights fading at 10pm to leave subtler illumination on the paths. By 11 pm, dim blue "tracer" lights dapple the roofscape and outline the shapes of key elements like lawns and decks.
Elite undertook all of the works to construct this exciting garden and the logistics were made extremely complicated not only by its central London location but also the fact that the works took place seven storeys up. All deliveries were carefully planned and health and safety was paramount to ensuring the successful completion of the project.

“Elite Landscapes demonstrate an ability to deliver high quality hard and soft landscapes even under the most challenging of conditions. This was never more evident than on the roof deck landscape for Trevor Square in Knightsbridge, where access was particularly difficult. Both staff and management take a very professional approach to achieving results which match the aspirations of the architect and client.”
